Jewellery Repairs

This post probably won’t interest many people other than my family so I’ll apologise for boring the rest of you.

Recently for graduation my Mum gave me my grandmother’s bangle as a gift, I also have my grandmothers diamond ring, both were in need of a bit of a clean and the bangle needed reshaping slightly and had become a little tarnished.

And my other grandmother had left me her ruby rings, one was completely broken and the other was in need of a good clean. I had thought about converting them into something a bit more modern but they’ve grown on me and I decided not to. Either way they needed a good repair.

And they were a little dull too as they hadn’t been worn in years since my lovely Nanny died.

Anyway I took them all into a jewellers at Great Yarmouth and got the lot done for £26 so that was a bargain and they turned out lovely. You can see the broken ring is all repaired and the bangles been reshaped.

All the stones polished up nicely.

And the bracelet looks a lot less tarnished although because it was damaged in places and it’s rolled gold they couldn’t shine it up perfectly without either losing the pattern or getting it plated which they said wouldn’t last. Still I think it looks rather good, and you can tell it’s vintage.

  Look How Shiny

Do you remember the ring I took to the jewellers?

All wonky and dirty?

Well I picked it up today… no longer on the wonk.

And look how clean! So shinnnyyyyyy. And only £20 to get it good as new again.

In other news I’ve reached a new age milestone… It had been about 4 plus years since I last got my eyes tested, so I went a few months ago and it turned out I had a prescription, not a strong one, but just for reading. The optician said I didn’t have to get glasses as I was managing fine without, but I noticed myself squinting at small text when I’m tired. The other day when I was driving and it was dusk I noticed (although when its fully dark it’s ok?) and at work when I was feeling tired I couldn’t read stuff on a screen from a small distance. Ugh!  Reading glasses… like an old person. Very sad. Next it’ll be grey hairs and then what! So I went to an opticians to try on some frames today and came to the conclusion I look terrible in glasses. Anyways I didn’t like any of them and they were all designer and well over £100. I don’t see why I should have to be old and poor in one sitting so I didn’t get any until wandering around Primark afterwards I spotted a section for reading glasses! Huzzah! I tried on every single style they had and then, because the prescription isn’t actually that strong I wasn’t entirely sure if they worked. So I ambled round Primark squinting at handbag labels first with my eyes, second with the glasses on, testing the glasses. I’m quite sure people though I was mad but I settled on this pair of glasses for £2! Now that is more my budget, and I’m not worried about breaking or losing them.

I blame my parents, they both wear reading glasses. For years my mum had these big hideous Deirdre Barlow glasses (google image “Deirdre Barlow 80’s”) and my dad wears tiny spindly Albus Dumbledore glasses which he shares with his horrible wife. But that aside, the rest of my day was nice, Kim and I had a chinese food fest whilst watching Homeland on Netflix.

Day Off Errands

I had a day off yesterday so I decided to take a trip into the city, I got a Groupon voucher for a pedicure at Le-La Beautique. I love browsing my Groupon App but I haven’t actually bought anything on there before. It was so easy to do. I got gold to match little goldie my car. Please excuse my stubby baby toes.

I have really ticklish feet but luckily the beautician was a pro at not tickling, also this weekend she might be doing Snoop Dogg’s nails (did you know he wore false nails??). I also took a trip to Aleks the Jewellers, they put a new stone in an old ring I had a while back and cleaned it up lovely. I recently acquired 3 rings that were my grandmothers and have been meaning to take them in.

As you can see this one needs a good clean up and a bit of a reshape!

Hopefully when I collect it it’ll look good as new and I can wear it. Today I worked a half day (lushhh) and took goldie to get cleaned, I would do it myself but I don’t have a driveway or a hose so… Just pay someone else, also the nice men at Sainsburys fixed my back windscreen wiper where it had seized up (although it took 3 of them to do it!) how sweet is that? I do love Sainsburys and ours is HUGE. It may cost a little more sometimes but it isn’t a lot more, it’s near my house and I’ve noticed there are a lot less screaming children in the aisles which can only be a good thing.

Precious Things

When I was younger, through a series of mishaps actually, my parents got me a diamond necklace. It was always kept in a safe place and never looked at or worn, just for special occasions I was told.
When I moved out my mum gave me the necklace and I too kept it in a safe place… far too safe! I couldn’t find it again, I was so annoyed with myself for losing it, not just because it was a gift from my parents but because I had always been saving it for a special occasion so in fact I’d never actually worn it!
I turned my flat upside down but I couldn’t find it anywhere. The most expensive piece of jewellery I own and I’d never worn it and then lost it. It wasn’t until I moved into the boyfriend and mine’s first house we rented that I actually found it… in the safe place I had left it (duh). From then on I wear it every now and then whenever I fancy and never again will I keep precious things for a special occasion, I’m just going to enjoy them when I want. Not at work though, against uniform policy!

Sorting

It’s so nice to sort out clutter sometimes.
At the weekend I bought a £3 jewellery sorter, it’s so good, it’s double sided pockets and it’s on a coat hanger so you can just hook it up. My drawers are clear…
My jewellery is not tangled…
Now if I could only find a similar thing for earrings… one to ponder. Enjoy the sun!
