Wheels On The Bus

I’ve been on a weeks spoke placement this past week and I’ve been feeling like I’m living on the bus. With that in mind I decided I would present you all with a photography spectacular art installation entitled the ‘wheels on the bus’, I haven’t had any purchase offers yet but I think it’s only a matter of time…
See? They’re bloody loving the bus! I however have not been…

Past The Point Of Polite

On my first day of university where the bus I needed was catastrophically late, I met a girl at the bus stop and we got chatting. Since then every time we happen to be going into class the same time on the same bus we stop and have a chat.
She’s a med student and a neighbour who lives on my road. It’s quite handy to know her because whenever the subject of doctors are brought up at nursing school where I attend I get to start sentences that begin “my friend who’s a med student says…”. Also it’s nice to have someone to abuse First Buses with when they’re late (which is always).
However, we’ve now known each other a few months and it had gotten past the point where either of us could politely ask each other our names. Also I couldn’t remember if I had already told her my name and just forgotten hers (which would be far worse!).
It just so happened I got off the bus yesterday and she was waiting for one the other side of the road and we had a chat whilst she waited for her bus to come and a catch up as we had both been on placement since we last saw each other. She showed me her ID badge photo for me to laugh at and I saw it! Her name! Finally! I asked “is it weird I only just found out what your name was?”. And it turned out she had the exact same dilemma, it had gotten past the point of polite asking, she said she had even come up with a plan for her housemate to ask me my name haha. Perhaps I should have just asked in the first place.
It’s Amy by the way.

What I Won’t Miss

So lately I’ve been on my first nursing placement but I’m coming to the end of it now and my last day working (for no pay I might add!) is my birthday… so that’s going to be joyous.
I shan’t be missing seeing the moon on the way to work, the moon is an indisputable sign that I should be in bed.
Nor shall I miss walking past the creepy misted over forest in between the accommodation and the hospital which I am convinced is full of murderers! That or wild animals… in the forest… probably more likely?
But the thing I shall miss least of all is the boring, expensive, long bus journey of rubbishness. Until January that is when I return to all of these joys. Happy November readers!

Second Week At Uni

This sort of sums up the bus service in my area…. but in fairness it has been much better than last week
All my classes are a bit more interesting than they have been previously, the majority of dull induction stuff is out of the way and we have moved onto a lot of the mandatory training (more manual handling!) in preparation for our first placement which has been conveniently placed either side of my birthday weekend (boo).
So far so good for fitting in my HCA work on weekends, also loan has been paid to me and bursary has been paid but the wrong amount so hopefully that will be sorted out soon. I did meet my lovely friend by chance on one of the wards at work the other day and she was on placement whilst I was working a shift there so it was lovely to bump into her when I wasn’t expecting it and I picked up a few pointers.
I meet my academic advisor that I’ve been paired with for the next three years next week so hopefully we hit it off as a good team. Fingers crossed!

A Dreadful Start

Today was the first day of my uni course and… it was just awful. Everything that could have gone wrong today, did. I started the day by waiting in the rain for the bus…. that didn’t show up. Zoomed back to the house to beg the boyfriend for a lift as he had to wait in all day for our bed to be delivered (between 1pm-5pm). Boyfriend luckily did give me a lift, pulled out onto the main road on the way to uni, who was behind us? The bus, bloody 20 minutes late! So annoyed! Oh and it was raining.
Next I got to uni and we had all the usual health and safety stuff. In a group of 200 people so didn’t really get to know anyone apart from a few words here and there. Then (and this is not their fault) because I’m on the NHS bank I had to sit through the exact same fire safety lecture as I had a few weeks ago! I’m now a fire pro but I can’t say it was the most profitable exchange of information! Apparently on main campus there was a freshers event with free pizza but we didn’t get to go or do anything along the fun side of things and nor were we told about it so didn’t go in lunch break.
So finally left uni, still raining, and walk to my bus stop. Bus is late on the way back too, by ten minutes. Call First Bus to complain, on hold for 8 mins but think no, this is worth it, I have a bus pass damn it! Get through to some snotty customer services rep and explain my late bus issues and end up having to remind the awful man to apologise for the inconvenience! Honestly. Terrible customer service, then I was like is the problem fixed, will the bus turn up tomorrow? And he said he’d have to terminate the call if I was going to be patronising! Personally, I think those are valid questions considering the bus hasn’t bothered to show up on time twice in one day. Finally hung up on man as he was clearly not fit to be operating a telephone and could see I was wasting my time.
Then I finally get home about 5pm… bed has not been delivered by Dreams of Norwich, nor have they called the boyfriend to update him of any problems. Great! Ring the store which is open til 8pm…. and ring… and ring… and ring. No one answers, least of all Glen who apparently sold us our bed or so our receipt says. Call up customer services who transfer me to an answering machine…not helpful. So that’s the cherry on top of the crappy day. Boyfriend has now driven round to the store to find out what’s going on whilst I wait in at home because he’s had to take the day off to wait in today and can’t really afford to take another off.
Sigh! What will go wrong tomorrow?
